Goodreads Synopsis:
It’s never wise to talk to strangers…and that goes double when they’re dead. Unfortunately, seventeen-year-old Anna Morgan has no choice. Resting on a park bench, touching the turnstile at the Metro station—she never knows where she’ll encounter a ghost. These mental hitchhikers are the reason Anna has been tossed from one foster home and psychiatric institution to the next for most of her life.

When a chance touch leads her to pick up the insistent spirit of a girl who was brutally murdered, Anna is pulled headlong into a deadly conspiracy that extends to the highest levels of government. Facing the forces behind her new hitcher’s death will challenge the barriers, both good and bad, that Anna has erected over the years and shed light on her power’s origins. And when the covert organization seeking to recruit her crosses the line by kidnapping her friend, it will discover just how far Anna is willing to go to bring it down.

My Review:
Before I begin I must reiterate by deep hatred for reading unfinished series. It's a hatred I can only express toward myself because I'm the one who picks up the books, after all.

I requested this title on NetGalley because I thought it sounded fun. I like paranormal/supernatural things and figured why not

Anna is a teenage girl who speaks to dead people...kind of. It's more like they attach themselves to her, fill her thoughts, and generally drive her crazy, but in an annoying way...not an insane way.

Anna has been this way her whole life, which is why she's spent most of her time in and out of foster care. She's formed a deep, familial bond with Deo and they have a very "us-against-the-world" kind of outlook on life.

Until Anna picks up Molly. Molly was murdered, but there's more to her story. Behind Molly's murder is an intricate plan to find people like Anna...gifted people.

There's a myriad of different characters in this story that you can't help but love. Aaron (swoon) and his family were Molly's friends and are in deeper than Anna even knows they are. They help her and Deo, take them into their protection, and genuinely care for them. Man, I love that.

The spirits that Anna picks up are fun, for the most part. Her encounters are interestingly written and each of them has their own voice.

I love how every characters in this book has a purpose. It's a huge web that Walker has sewn together and it definitely kept me wanting more. I am, of course, kicked myself because now I have to wait for the next two books! But I'll wait, and so will you, if you know what's good for you!

Thanks to NetGalley and Skyscape for the ARC.
